How to Make Liquid Hand Soap from Bar Soap

If you are new to couponing, you may end up finding great deals on bar soap before you find deals on hand soap.  Personally, I have a huge stockpile of BOTH but I just LOVE this idea from Couponers United

Supplies needed: 1 bar of soap, pan, grater, 3 cups of water

Step 1: Grate the bar of soap into pan

Step 2: Add 3 cups of water and melt over medium heat

Step 3: allow to cool

You should be able to fill two to three handsoap dispensers with one bar of soap!

Thanks so much Couponersunited for this easy idea!!!

Thank you so much for this recipe. I can’t wait to try it. It is so simple and will be much more economical than buying multiple bottles of hand soap. You rock <3!

Just so you know on their website it says 2 sups of water?

    • on facebook someone said that 3 cups works MUCH better (it was the person who made the recipe so I changed it)

  4. Ironically, I was just googling around yesterday trying to figure out what to do with all the little travel soaps I swipe from WDW Resorts! Now I can do this and refill my Method Mickey Ears soap pumps for super-cheap!

    Thanks!

  6. Thank you for sharing this recipe, I’ve been trying to find a way to help our church stretch the monthly “necessities” budget, and making hand soap for the restrooms is a sure fire way to do that. Thanks again and keep great posts like this coming, they are so helpful!

CAUTION!!!!! This DOES NOT work w/Ivory soap
    Be advised!!!!!

    • Umm…Yea it does work with Ivory soap as I made a batch yesterday after seeing this post. I would definitely use 2.5-3 cups of water per bar. I made a 3 bar batch and other than needing a little more water than originally mentioned, it worked perfectly

the ivory just melted and floated on top of the water. I boiled it for quite a long time, dont know what went wrong

  9. I found it works much better with 1 TBSP of glycerin. It is much smoother.

  10. Hi – just wanted to add, I made this using 1 bar of dial tropical soap & 4 cups of water. By the next morning I had to keep adding water until it made AT LEAST a full 64 oz. container of it – talk about CHEAP & EASY!!!

  11. I just wanted to let all know that I just used 1 bar Ivory, 3 cups of water, 1 TBSP of Glycerin. So far it looks like just a cloudy pan of water !!!! Hmm ??
