I just got a knock on my door and it was my mail lady asking for 62 cents because Chicken of the Sea didn’t pay enough postage when they sent me the pack of tuna from the freebie offer I posted about here.
Would you have paid it? I could have bought a pouch of tuna for less than 62¢ after coupon. At first I told her I didn’t want it but she kept pushing me to pay it saying “You don’t have 62¢ ?”. I know in the scheme of life 62¢ isn’t a big deal but it really bugs me that I am paying for something that should have been free.
UPDATE: I left a comment on their Facebook page saying how disappointed I was that I had to pay extra postage and they are mailing me something to make up for it
On a better note, I also got the Free Green Mountain Kcup Iced Coffee packs and the Free Fancy Feast and Nescafe Memento pack in the mail today!

No I would have told her that I didn’t have the 62 cents . It’s really horrible that they would have you taste their product at your expense … Really ?????
pardon the pun but that sounds fishy. I think if the postage wasnt paid they would not have delivered. I think maybe she needed the change for something. THat sounds very suspect
they had paid a little over $1 but I guess it wasn’t quite enough.
Suspect?! “omg… I MUST get $.62 from someone or I wont be able to buy my coffee tonight?!”
Amy, did you contact the company and tell them how disappointed you are in this?! yay free coupons!
yes I left a message on their facebook page and they are mailing me something to make up for it hehe
I got those as well but in my fancy feast pack there was a Nescafe memento . Kind of weird .
yes thats what it was supposed to have
That’s happened to me a couple times but my postal carrier is too lazy to knock on my door. So they just left the package with an envelope for me to put the money in. That didn’t fly by me though. If they really wanted me to pay for it then they should not of given me the package and just left a note to pick it up at the post office to pay for it.
By the way, I’d write a complaint to Chicken of the Sea of what happened. Maybe they’ll fix it and you’ll get something better in return.
I left a message on their facebook page… we’ll see what happens hehe
Realistically USPS shouldn’t have mailed the package without enough postage. It should have been sent back to them. That happens to me when I forget postage. Also I’m sure they pay with an account because they mail so many things, therefore that seems sketchy. She could be hitting up everyone for change…
No, I wouldn’t have paid it. Like you said it should have been free. I would have sent it back and left the comment like you did or contact them through their website.
No matter what the cost, I am simply about principles. I would not have paid for the difference. Especially if you can get the product cheaper.
i have had it happen to me many times even when other people have mailed me stuff i have had to pay postage.. because there own post office did not charge then enough i guess
Nope, wouldn’t have paid out of principle.
I received my Chicken of the Sea, without incident on Saturday morning. I live in Polk County.
Strange, huh?
I don’t know why the package was shipped without enough postage, but it happens all the time. I am a mail carrier, and I receive items with a “postage due” card on a regular basis. The post office actually supplies envelopes (brown envelope with the flap at the top) that has a place on it for us to write the amount owed. If we choose to go ahead and pay the difference for the customer, we leave them the envelope in good faith that they will pay us back. Otherwise, we can do as your carrier did and bring the package to your door and ask you if you would like to pay the difference or send the parcel back as refused.
I am not sure I would have paid it – I probably would have asked her to return it to sender.
I don’t find it sketchy. I don’t think the mail lady was trying to get .62 cents for herself. It is probably stamped on the envelope that it was needed.
I would contact the USPS. My husband works for the USPS in Jacksonville and they do not ask you to pay when the item is short shipping. They mail it back to the orginal destination or if the company has an account they charge their account. He has told me that some carriers pull this scam to make pocket change and it’s illegal
Usually they return the package back to sender, or they leave you a postcard with you having to go to the post office to p/u and pay the postage needed.I never heard of them knocking on your door and doing that.
I would complain to the company.
I work in an International business and it happens all the time….we keep change at the receptionists desk…lol
Wow, I thought the post office wouldn’t DO Postage Due any more. There’s that at least. I would have done it out of respect to my postage carrier who had to carry it to my door, I wouldn’t want to make him carry it back over 62 cents. He’s a good guy and brings me presents!
I received mine today. There was a meter tape on it which probably fell of your package. CoS paid $1.50 to send to me in South Florida. Seems like the post office is making a killing on this. Next time CoS will send a coupon I’d think!
