ICE ! at Gaylord Palms in Orlando/Kissimmee Florida

Last night I got the pleasure of going to the media event for ICE! at Gaylord Palms and had such a blast.  I got to bring 2 kids with me but Kaley wanted to go to her school’s football game so I let Kyle bring one of his friends and they both kept thanking me over and over for bringing them.

When we first walked into the hotel, it was so beautifully decorated for Christmas.  It really got you into the holiday spirit immediately!  I got some great pictures of Kyle in front of their Christmas trees.

This year they themed the ice sculptures to “Merry Madagascar” and they were incredible.  Over 2 million pounds of ice was used to create all the sculptures and some of them will blow you away!  With characters such as Melman the Giraffe (standing at 10 feet tall), Gloria the hippo, Marty the zebra, Alex the lion, King Julian and the lemurs plus those fun loving penguins, you are sure to be amazed.

FYI: Don’t worry about bringing a jacket, they will provide one for you.  However, I do wish I had brough some gloves because my hands got cold trying to take all the pictures.

Near the end of the tour, you will reach 4 “very cool” (get it) 2 story ice slides which Kyle ended up going down at least 8 times before I told him we needed to move on.  Your kids will LOVE this section !!!  And yes, adults are allowed to slide down too.  🙂

And for those of you who like a more classic nativity scene…. at the end, they had a BEAUTIFUL display in all white (this photo doesn’t do it justice).

On your way out, make sure you save time for Gingy’s Gingerbread decorating where you will get to choose from several different design options to create a yummy gingerbread cookie or a complete gingerbread house.  Then meet Gingy himself and get a cute photo taken with him.  NOTE: purchase is required for this event

Finally, make sure you check the entertainment schedule to find out when the free Luminesence stage show (featuring Christmas Wonders and Edge Effect) will be taking place the day you go.  It was simply AMAZING.  Not only was the singing fantastic, but there was an aerial show with a guy playing the drums and an acrobat doing tricks on a lit up cube high above the stage.  **sadly, none of the pictures I took of the show turned out- everything was blurry (could not have been because I had just finished 2 glasses of wine at the reception they had for all the media 😉 ).

If you have never been to ICE before, I highly recommend going.  It will be running this year from Nov 10th to January 1st and will be open daily including holidays.

  9. This event looks like so much fun!! Every year my husband and I think about going, but it is hard to justify the ticket and parking prices during the busy holiday season. Last year I think they did a Groupon, so maybe that will be offered again 🙂
