Bahama Breeze #Rumtoberfest Every Thursday Night in October

Bahama Breeze Island Grille, the restaurant that gives guests the feeling of an island escape, is celebrating rum through November 2 with #Rumtoberfest. This six-week long event includes a host of new food and drink offerings, instant win prizes and special Thursday night events in each restaurant starting at 8 pm.

Kevin and I were invited to be their guest and we got to try their new rum and coke wings which were absolutely DELICOUS.  They are Bahama Breeze’s signature chicken wings smothered in a house-made sauce with Myers’ Original Dark Rum.  If you like sweeter wings, these are for you.

Also we got to sample several rum drinks like the Ultimate Pineapple and their Rum Flight which features Seven Fathoms, Pyrat XO Reserve and Zaya Gran Reserva 12 Year rums.

The night wouldn’t be complete without trying their rum cake which is made with Bacardi Oakheart Rum and topped with raisin butterscotch sauce and vanilla bean ice cream.   OMG I seriously devoured this dessert.  It was so good !!!

LongHorn Steakhouse “Steaks That Sizzle”

LongHorn Steakhouse is now offering “Steaks That Sizzle,” a menu that features three flavorful steaks served with a hand-chopped salad and choice of a side for $12.99. Guests can choose smoky, spicy or savory with the following dishes:

·         Smoky Double Bacon Sirloin – 6 oz. sirloin wrapped in bacon, topped with even more bacon, smoked gouda and a four-cheese sauce.

·         Spicy Sriracha Sirloin – 6 oz. sirloin smoldering with a spicy housemade Sriracha sauce and finished with crispy onion straws.

·         Savory Parmesan Crusted Sirloin – 6 oz. sirloin grilled the way you like it, then crusted with savory Parmesan and garlic cheese.

I was given the opportunity to take my family to go try these new steaks and had an amazing evening.  I had never been to Longhorn Steakhouse before and I am not sure why I hadn’t.  We went to the Waterford Lakes location and was super impressed with everything.

We started our meal with the sweet chili calamari which was absolutely delicious.  It is drizzled with a sweet and spicy chili ginger sauce and comes with extra for dipping.  This was a huge hit with everyone at the table.

Next we ordered one of each of the featured steaks which came with our choice of garden salad or caesar and a side.  Kaley got the Savory Parmesan Crusted Sirloin, I got the Smoky Double Bacon Sirloin and Kyle got the Spicy Sriracha Sirloin.  My steak was AHHHHMazing and I would definitely get it again and again.  I tried Kaley’s parmesan crusted steak and really liked it as well.  Kyle said his Sriracha steak was pretty hot but he LOVED it.  I think he went through 4 glasses of water while eating it though LOL.

Even though we were stuffed, we all wanted a little something sweet so we ordered the Molten Lava Cake topped with Vanilla Ice Cream.  Let me say… YUM !  We devoured this in only a couple minutes because it was THAT good.

I can honestly say, this entire dinner experience was one of the best I have ever had.  After being a waitress for 16 years I can be a tad critical at times but I can’t say a single bad thing about our meal.  The staff was super friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were having a nice dinner.  All of the food was incredible from start to finish.  I highly recommend Longhorn Steakhouse !

Review of Vivo Italian Kitchen at Universal City Walk in Orlando

By now, most of you have read my review of Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley at Universal Studios and my review of Cabana Bay Beach Resort but I still haven’t told you about one more part of my fun blogger trip…. Universal City Walk !!!

On our first night of our trip, we all got to head over to Universal City Walk which is located within walking distance of both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure theme parks.  It is a huge area filled with tons of restaurants, the AMC Universal Cineplex 20 with IMAX movie theater, Hollywood Drive-In Golf, bars and night clubs, gift shops and more.

For dinner, we ate at Vivo Italian Kitchen which features delightful modern Italian cuisine created from tried and true family recipes.  It has an open kitchen so you will immediately smell freshly baked breads and see chefs mixing sauces, hand-crafting dough, preparing homemade mozzarella, making fresh pasta and sliding piping hot pizzas out of the oven.

To start our meal, they brought out a plate of hand pulled mozzarella with virgin olive oil, balsamic glaze, olive tapenade and pesto oil.  Everyone at the table LOVED this.  I think near the end we were all fighting over who got the last one.

Next they brought out tuscan toast and a platter of vasi-mini mason jars (normally you would order them each separately).  The ones they brought us were the Roasted Eggplant, Tomato Mozzarella, and Ricotta w/ Candied Walnuts.  I could have eaten both the Tomato Mozzarella or the Ricotta w/ Candied Walnuts as a whole meal.  WOW they are SUPER DELICIOUS !

For our entree, I chose the Parmigiano (chicken parmesan), Kyle chose the Pork Loin with garlic mashed potatoes and Kaley chose the lasagna.  These were all SO good and I would highly recommend any of them.

Dessert is always my favorite part of any meal and I was definitely not disappointed with the selection of desserts they brought out for us to try.  I think I dove into them so fast I forgot to listen to what they were (one was some kind of cheesecake and the other was like a lava cake) but trust me, they were amazing !

Whether you are a local or from out of the area, Universal City Walk is a great place to go for an entire evening of fun !

Sonic Drive-In Launches Cheesy Bread Dogs

The Garlic Parmesan Cheesy Bread Dog takes the same delicious pure beef dog and warm cheddar bun and adds zesty Garlic Parmesan Sauce and grilled onions for those who like a little zing with their dogs.

After hearing about these new cheesy bread dogs, Kyle and I headed out to Sonic for lunch today to try them and we got one of each.  I chose the Garlic Parmesan Cheesy Bread Dog and Kyle chose the Ultimate Cheese and Bacon Cheesy Bread Dog.  We both tried a bite of each others and agreed that his with bacon was really good but we both were not super crazy about the parmesan with onions.  It wasn’t bad but I probably would not get it again.  The cheesy bread/bun was very good and I would get it again for sure.  I might just got a plain dog with ketchup inside that bun next time though….  I bet that would taste really good !!!

Olive Garden Introduces New Menu Items

olive-garden Olive Garden recently unveiled the most significant menu evolution in the restaurant’s history, including more than 20 new menu items that broaden the choice, variety and value it offers guests. I was invited to bring my family in to a location near me to check out the new menu and we had a really great time.  We went to the East Colonial location in Orlando FL (near Waterford Lakes) and the staff there was really friendly.  Our waitress did a wonderful job taking care of us which says a lot because I waited tables for 16 years before blogging and can be a tad critical sometimes.  However, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about her or the service at all.  She made our dinner really special. The manager Eric was very attentive and stopped by our table to tell us about their “best value” meal which is the new Cucina Mia (“My Kitchen”) which starts at only $9.99.  Guests can create their own entrée by choosing a pasta such as the new Large Paccheri, the new Tri-Colored Vegetable Penne, the new Cavatappi, the new gluten-free Rotini, Bucatini or Whole Wheat Linguine.  Then you will top it with one of their made-from-scratch sauces such as their new Creamy Garlic Asiago, new Primavera, new Creamy Sun-Dried Tomato, new Spicy Diavolo or Fresh Tomato Pomodoro.  You can also add a topping like their new Chicken Meatballs, new Sausage Meatballs, Meatballs or Sautéed Shrimp at an additional cost. olive-garden-wings Kevin and I decided to try their newest appetizer, Spicy Calabrian Wings which were absolutely delicious !  These chicken wings are tossed with garlic and chili peppers from the Italian region of Calabria, served with gorgonzola dipping sauce. You can even increase the heat by adding their signature Calabrian chili paste.  If you like wings with a kick, these will hit the spot.  Also the gorgonzola dipping sauce was AMAZING.  So much better than the normal blue cheese or ranch dressing you get at other restaurants.  And one of my favorite things about these wings were the pieces of roasted garlic found mixed in with the topping.  SO GOOD ! olive-garden-salad-topper Another addition to their menu are “toppings” for the Olive Garden’s signature garden-fresh salad. For only $2.99, you can choose from…

  • Antipasti Italian Meats & Cheese – Hard salami, genoa salami, pepperoni and mozzarella.
  • Roasted Tomato Caprese – Fresh mozzarella bites, roasted tomato, bell pepper, basil, kale and an extra-virgin olive oil drizzle.

Kevin really liked adding the meats and cheeses to his salad because he normally orders an antipasti salad when its available.  I personally am a soup girl and got the Pasta Fagioli which is always delicious. Olive-garden-filet Kaley ordered the Center Cut Filet Mignon from their Lighter Italian Fare section of the menu which is a 6 oz premium cut filet, seasoned with Italian herbs and grilled. Served with sautéed Italian vegetables and roasted garlic.  It comes with veggies but she substituted fettuccini alfredo at a small additional cost.  I guess this kind of ruins the “lighter fare” part of it but she definitely doesn’t need to worry about calories.  She was in heaven eating this steak. She did let me have a bite after I begged and told her I needed to try it for my review and I have to say, it was really good.  I don’t think I would normally get a steak at an Italian restaurant but I definitely would get this again !!! If you like filets, you might also consider their new Parmesan Crusted Filet which is  6 oz premium center cut filet, grilled to perfection and topped with a creamy parmesan-alfredo crust.  Served with sautéed Italian vegetables and roasted garlic. olive-garden-salmon Kevin and I decided to try a couple of the new Olive Garden Specialties.   I got the Salmon Bruschetta which is grilled salmon filet topped with bruschetta tomatoes and basil pesto, served on freshly prepared seafood risotto with crab meat.  This was soooo much better than I was expecting and I am really glad I got it.  I could definitely eat the crab risotto as my main meal and may go back and get a take-out order for lunch sometime soon.  I am already craving more of it !!! Kevin ordered the Crab Topped Chicken which is a pan-seared chicken breast topped with crab meat in a lemon cream sauce.  Served with fresh spinach and garlic parmesan mashed potatoes.   I am not sure I would normally pair crab and chicken together but it was pretty good. Here are a couple of the other new specialty entrees that you may like:

  • Pappardelle Pescatore – Sautéed shrimp, bay scallops and clams tossed with pappardelle pasta, fresh asparagus and tomatoes in a creamy red pepper seafood sauce.
  • Mediterranean Grilled Trout – 10 oz filet seasoned with basil and extra-virgin olive oil. Served with pappardelle pasta tossed with garlic, broccoli and fresh tomato sauce.

kaley-olive-garden After our meal, we had to try their newest dessert, the Wild Berry Layer Cake.  It is layers of moist vanilla cake and Italian cream topped with seasonal berries and white chocolate shavings.  Seriously, this was one of the best cakes I have ever eaten !!! So as you can see, we loved everything we tried from their new menu and I was truly impressed with the service and managers at the East Colonial, Orlando location. If you stop by that location for a meal, say hi to the manager Eric, he is such a nice guy ! Celebrate National French Onion Soup Day at Mimi’s Cafe

Did you know that March 8th is National French Onion Soup Day?  This will be such a fun holiday to celebrate with your loved ones !

Many years ago, before I had kids, I worked at one of the restaurants at Disney that had an amazing French onion soup.  It was actually too good I guess because it spoiled me to liking onion soup at any other restaurant….  that is until now.  Mimi’s Café has a French onion soup that is truly delicious !!!  I can honestly say, this is the first French onion soup that I have loved in over 15 years !!!

Earlier today Kaley and I headed up to Mimi’s Café to try their soup and enjoy a nice appetizer and we had a great time.  Their Original French Onion Soup is the ultimate version of this classic soup with its golden, caramelized onions, piping hot beef stock and decadent melted Swiss Cheese on top of a classic croute, for just $3.99 a cup.  And on top of keeping you cozy during the chill, French Onion Soup can keep you healthy! Onions have been known to improve immunity, assist in regulating blood sugar, reduce inflammation, heal infections and even plays a significant role in preventing cancer!

Kaley also wanted to order the fried calamari appetizer and I am so glad we did because it was really good and not overly chewy like some restaurants.  And the bread they bring to the table is just scrumptious !!!

If you have never been to Mimi’s Café before, I highly recommend going and if you can’t make it for National French Onion Day, make sure you check our their Sunday brunch because it is SOOOO good !!!

Bonefish Grill Introduces New Sunday Brunch Menu

As if the Sunday brunch menu at Bonefish Grill wasn’t tempting enough, now the “Fresh Fish Experts” at the award-winning restaurant have whipped up a new brunch menu designed to please every palate. Available now in all Bonefish Grill locations, the new menu offers classic brunch favorites as well as those with a spin of inspiration and flair.

You can now choose from delicious meals such as Surf and Turf Eggs Benedict, Huevos Benedictos w/ crispy corn tortillas and chorizo, Spinach and Mushroom Eggs Benedict, “American Style” Kobe Beef and Egg Burger, Cajun Shrimp Omelet, Garden Fresh Omelet and Organic Whole Grain Oatmeal.  For the health-conscious guest, all omelets can be prepared with an egg white substitute upon request.

They even offer an “Endless Bubbles Brunch” which costs $19.90 and gets you your choice of omelet, brunch favorite or eggs benedict plus endless bellinis or mimosas.  Looking around the restaurant, I think almost everyone was enjoying this option as you constantly saw servers walking by with mimosas.

I decided to take my girl out for a mommy daughter day and we had the best time.  Kaley chose the Surf and Turf Eggs Benedict while I chose the Crème Brulee French toast.  Both were simply amazing and I can’t wait to go back again.  Kaley would not let me eat any of the lobster from her plate but I did get to try the Eggs Benedict and wow was it good.  I am going to have a hard time picking what to get next time.  I love that the prices were very reasonable ($13.50 and $10.50 respectively) and the meals were large enough that we were both stuffed.  I highly recommend the raspberry vodka Collins if you are in the mood for a sweet cocktail. DELICIOUS !

Don’t Miss the New Menu at MiMi’s Cafe

Several weeks ago I got invited to Mimi’s Cafe in Orlando near the Millennia Mall to check out their new menu.  I have always been a huge fan of MiMi’s but hadn’t been in awhile so I was excited to see what was new.

Before eating all the delicious foods, we got a chance to meet MiMi’s executive chef Katie Sutton who was just so funny and so nice to talk to.  What I learned from talking to her is that they have gone back to the original French Inspired recipes that they used when the restaurant first started.  And let me say… GOOD DECISION !

To start off the meal, I ordered the Mussels à la Mimi’s which is steamed in white wine, garlic and fresh herbes and served with garlic French baguette croutons.  Just looking at the picture makes me want to go back !!!  Then I got the French Onion soup which just heavenly.  I highly recommend it !

For my entree’ I had the Salmon, Kevin had the Coq au Vin and my friend Lisa had the Pasta Carbonara à la Mimi’s.  We all were just amazed at how great everything tasted.

And no meal would be complete without a sweet ending.  Instead of ordering from the dessert menu, we went a little different and got a couple breakfast items.  Both the Strawberry Waffle Perdu and the Bacon Apple Waffle were absolutely delicious and I WILL be back for breakfast soon !!!

Sonic Introduces a New Spicy Menu + New Natural-cut ‘Skin-on’ Fries

For the more daring, the Island Fire™ Spicy Chicken Sandwich includes a sweet and spicy habanero sauce on top of the spicy chicken breast filet for a completely new and exotic chicken experience.

The Island Fire™ SuperSONIC® Cheeseburger is made with 100 percent pure beef patties, featuring smokey cheddar and pepper jack cheeses, crisp bacon, fresh lettuce, hand-sliced tomato and  a sweet and spicy habanero sauce on a warm, toasted bakery bun.

The new Southwest Chipotle Breakfast Burrito comes with smoked chipotle sauce and fire-roasted red and green peppers to help bring a little more spice to breakfast time (which can actually be purchased any time of day).

In addition to the new spicy menu items, Sonic launched its new Natural-Cut Fries. Made from whole russet potatoes, the new natural-cut, ‘skin-on’ fry offers guests a higher quality fry with a crispy crunch to delight the senses.  These can be purchased as part of a combo or on their own.

Kaley and I headed over to Sonic to try out some the new menu items and everything was so great.  The fries were REALLY good and the chicken sandwich had a great flavor.  It wasn’t too hot but had a nice buffalo wing sauce type kick to it.  Of course, we had to get a shake and Kaley got some of the cheesecake bites (which didn’t make it into the pic because she ate them so fast).  The sauce on the burger was truly unique.  It starts off sweet and then brings on the fire.
