Publix Coupon Policy Changing Again

I just got a copy of the new Publix coupon policy and it appears that it will start on Oct 1 with a grace period thru Oct 18 (during which time Customer Service is to educate customers about new coupon policies while allowing them to continue to abide by the old policy)

New policy includes:

  • We only accept coupons on identical items we sell.
  • We accept a manuf and either a Publix store coupon or competitor coupon on the same item. Maximum 2 coupons per item
  • Manuf digital offers can not be combined with manuf paper coupons on the purchase of the same item.
  • We do not accept percentage off items or percentage off total order coupons.
  • We do not accept coupons that Publix determines to be printed incorrectly.  For example, a coupon missing a size requirement or other standard coupon details .
  • We do not accept coupons presented via a mobile phone or device
  • We do not accept coupons that appear to be copied.  All coupons must be originals.
  • For Bogo offers, each item is considered a separate purchase.
  • We limit coupon redemption to eight of the same coupons per day per household.
  • Managers approval is needed for individual coupons above $5.
  • Dollar off total order coupons will be limited to one Publix coupon and one competitor coupon per day per household.  The total order before coupon must be equal to or greater than combined purchase requirement indicated on the coupons presented.  We consider competitor coupons for a dollar off groups of items to be dollar off total order coupons and will only allow one per day per household.
  • Money due back to the customer at the end of the transaction involving coupons will only be provided on a Publix gift card.

New  Rain Check policies:

  • We will only issue one rain check per day per household for an item.
  • We will not issue rainchecks for Publix, manuf or competitor coupons

  1. It was bound to happen sooner or later. About 90% of couponers are greedy jerks who constantly try and break the rules so of course the stores are finally going to say enough is enough.

  2. Well, that stinks. I don’t have a Publix, but I love hearing about all your great deals. And, yes, some low-lifes have to ruin it for everyone else. It’s like that with lots of things. 🙁

  3. I don’t see much that’s different. I totally don’t understand this one? (Dollar off coupons will be limited to one Publix coupons per day per household. The total order before coupon must be equal to or greater than combined purchase requirement indicated on the coupons presented. We consider competitor coupons for a dollar off of items to be dollar coupon only allow one per day per household.)

    • basically you cant use a Publix $5/30 and a $5/30 Winn Dixie unless you have $60 in groceries

      • That was always the policy at my 3 local Publix – on Aloma, 17-92, and WP Village. Also, unless I could “proove” that a black and white copy of a coupon was not a photocopy, I could only use one. I tried to educate C.S. that there are distinctly different PINs, on each coupon, but was told it didn’t matter, because those could be altered.

    • I take that to mean that they are including things like the recent Target store coupon for $3 off $15 produce/deli/bakery coupon. So you couldn’t you a Publix $5/$40, a Winn Dixie $5/$30 and the previously mentioned Target produce/deli/bakery coupon. You would have to pick Publix and only one of the other two. Does that make sense?

  4. I am not seeing the new policy effecting me, I only use 1 $5.00 off coupon per trip, I don’t use digital coupons if that is the ones from my phone. and I never purchase more then 6 same items per trip. SO think I can live with this IF ALL Publix follow the same rules

  5. What do you see as the biggest problem with the new policy (other than, now greedy people won’t be able to hoard all the great sale items)? I kinda feel like this is really not a big deal, but maybe I’m not reading something correctly?

  6. Doesn’t seem different than the current policy. Am I missing something?

    • biggest changes are the limit of 8 like coupons per customer per day

and the money you get back (if after coupons you get cash back) will go on a Publix coupon

I am ok with all the changes !!!

  7. Not a huge deal really. They normally have a limit of 10 items which with identical coupons is now 8 so not a huge change. Maybe this will stop the abusers from whining their way to 50 items. Heck some were getting away with saying each scent or flavor is a different item so they could walk out with 100 shampoos. The winn dixie are now 1 per day per household when before they were basically 2 per household if both people are present so a small change but honestly just wait one day and use another. Cash back is not a big deal although I am not sure how they will do it if cash back is below $5 as that is the minimum to get a gift card. Everything else is a current rule that they rarely enforce so I hope this makes them stop allowing copied coupons.

  8. I knew it was coming!! yesterday I went to my local Publix here in Fort Lauderdale and I was devastated when they told me that they no longer accept Whole foods coupons!! I was even more devastated about three weeks ago when they also Removed TARGET coupons from their list. So now I can only use Winn Dixie.
You can imagine how I feel with your post about the policy change..Wrecked!!

    • To be honest Publix changes are not affecting me as much, I am not an excessive-compulsive buyer and I make small trips to publix, almost never have to make several transactions(usually with the gas card deal I make two) but other than that I am cool. What brakes me is the fact that Publix is not longer accepting certain competitor coupons at determined locations….
You can probably understand my feelings….

  9. What has changed,I hope it’s it’s not to bad, But I agree, I go to my Publix, And see all the crude couponers, Taking all the coupons, in the store, Including all tearpads, Blinkies, Or any other ones, When I started couponing about 9 yrs ago it was a pleasureable experience, But now we have these no class people, That have made it look like couponers are criminals. I went in my store today to get some of the Chili’s dinners on sale bogo, Like 2. And the shelf is cleared, Publix needs to put limits on things.

  10. So the raincheck part confuses me. Will I be able to use coupons with my rain checks?

  11. Well I coupon, But I always go by their policy. I’m happy to save anything and never take more than I need. LOL I might have one or two coupons for an item so I’m not a shelf clearer. So if I can still save some I’m okay with that. The company has to survive too and pay it’s employees.

  12. It is RIDICULOUS that Publix doubles coupons in EVERY state other than FL. When you call them at customer service to ask them why their answer is because they don’t have to because they have no competition. I wish a Lowes Foods or a Harris Teeter would come to FL. At HT they always double coupons every day up to .99 and about every 6 weeks they do super double where they will double coupons up to $2! As well, they allow you to use an electronic coupon AND a paper coupon on the same item. That is where I always shop here in NC and all my family and friends in FL hate the way Publix treats it’s Florida customers. Shame on you Publix!

    • Actually,

It is illegal to double coupons in Florida. So, no they would not allow you to double at any other store. It is not Publix’s decision to not double coupons. Please do not bash Publix before you know why. Publix bows to their customers in Florida. I think some people forget Publix started in Florida. Shame on you.

      • it is not illegal to double coupons in florida. publix told me that it cost a lot and they were doing great with the true bogo in fl.

      • It’s not illegal to double coupons in Florida. In fact, there is a store here named Hitchcock’s Markets that is a competitor with Publix that doubles up to 50 cents….and yet Publix still won’t double. 🙁

    • Publix does not coupon in Florida cause they offer BOGO’s. In other states publix operates in it is against the law to run Bogo items. The new wording in policy is household . This so your 4 year old dosent count as a seperate order like it use to be so coupons could use extra coupons or get extra rain checks. And you can’t get a raincheck for your coupon that’s gonna expire cause Publix or it’s whse ran out of the product cause all couponers bought out the whse. This is a good change. To many grey areas in old policy.

    • They do not double in parts of SC either.

  13. Everyone will be movingto walmart cauuse you areny coupon freindley price to high anyway

    • Not me, I can’t get the final total to be as low at Walmart as I can at Publix when I get to use the $5 off $30 winn Dixie coupons there (walmart wont take those)

      • Keep in mind, though… Winn Dixie coupons are now coming out as $5/$50. It’s definitely going to make it more difficult to get that total down low.

    • i know i have been shopping more at walmart since their policy change of the ad match at their policies and i was a loyal publix only customer.

  14. Publix still has the most liberal coupon policy and the best deals of any grocery store I’ve seen. Those of you with Publix stores in your area are so lucky. I would love to be able to shop at Publix. None of my grocery stores let you combine coupons or use competitors coupons, only double .40 and lower, hardly ever have BOGO or free items, and dont give overage or cash back.

    • I agree… there are still the best store to shop at (unless you are one of the ppl who shelf clears and is going to want to use more than 8 like coupons and get stacks of rain checks to scam the system) LOL

  15. Where do you all find these $5 off total sale coupons for Publix?

    • They are inside of the Enjoy the City coupon booklets

    • They are in the Enjoy the City booklets ( You can get good deals on the booklets if you buy large quantities –sometimes as low as $1 per book when you buy 75-100 books. Right now the deals are great for certain books, but the W/D expire at the end of this year. Each book comes with q $5 off $50 purchase at W/D. Publix accepts them as competitor coupons.

      • I didn’t buy the books, got mine off e bay. They have been hot property, so some are charging more. They expire at the end of this year. was lucky and got mine when they were 5/30.

  16. was worried about the change, esp for the b1g1 deals with coupons-but happy its same as usual.

by the way, went to Walmart today & used 2 -$1.50 Chili’s entrees coupons from, & b1g1 Publix ad. Money maker(2.77 my walmart) !!

  17. They won’t accept a coupon that they deem is missing information like size? A lot of coupons don’t have the size of the item on it.

  18. Lupe Hernandez says

I am glad Publix is finally doing this. It is annoying when you go to buy something you have a coupon for only to find out that someone cleared off the shelves! As to the bogo, 2 coupons, Publix has ALWAYS done that, that is why I love Publix. A cashier at Publix told me the reason is because we are “buying” both items, Publix is “giving” us one so therefore we CAN use 2 coupons on BOGO’S. Love my Publix

  19. My publix sais no coupon on a bogo 🙁 this will be sad

  20. john is that true that it is illegal to double in Florida? I remember (about 30 years ago?) when Albertson’s in the Tampa area doubled.

  21. I don’t see anything that will impact me except for the $5/$40 coupons from WD. I used to split my transactions, so that I could use 2 of these coupons on the same day. I guess I’ll have to visit 2 publix to use them, or go back the next day. I have 20 – 54/40, which I got from the Enjoy City books. Now that WD will stop accepting them after 12/31, I’ll have to make sure to use them up. The only new rule I think will make a difference, is the use of no more than 8 coupons on one item, per customer, per day. There’s nothing like going shopping, and finding shelves “empty” from hoarders. No hate comments please.

  22. How will Publix stop people from doing more than 8transactions of one item a day if they have no way of tracking the purchases?
    Thank you

  23. I use coupons myself so I took the time to read the, coupon policy including the question and answer section before I shopped there. There aren’t many actual changes. Majority is just getting all stores to adhere to the same policy. I have been stuck behind customers with 40 things on the express line (no more than 10!). Also been behind others who were returning their free items for cash==the day after the logo sale ended. The worst is seeing someone pull out 50 coupons for 10 items. Doesn’t take a genius to know something is wrong===and I thought I picked a quick line. Bottom line…there are multiple legal ways to save money without cheating and without being disrespectful to customers and store employees.sometimes all it takes is actually reading the store signs and showing respect!

  24. do you have any updates to this info? because publix web site has been updated and coupon policy is basically the same
