Here is an easy DIY craft which can be displayed around Valentine’s Day or all year long.

Supplies needed:
- Wooden heart from Dollar Tree in Valentine’s section $1
- Shadow Box (you can use any framed picture that drops down to put the heart inside it) I found mine at Dollar Tree. $1
- Stain or paint for the wooden heart (you can get acrylic paint for under $1 at Walmart and some Dollar Tree stores carry select colors of acrylic paint as well)
- Spray paint or acrylic paint if the shadow box isn’t the color you want it to be. I get spray paint from Walmart and Home Depot for under $1
- Mod Podge or craft glue (Dollar Tree carries both of these) $1
- Scrapbook paper – Under $1
- Scissors to cut scrapbook paper
*If you use acrylic paint for the heart and shadowbox/frame you can make this for around $5 to $6 (I already had the stain and mod podge so this cost me only $4 to make)
Instructions:
- Take the backing off the shadow box or picture frame (if it comes off).
- Trace the size of the box onto the scrapbook paper and cut it out.
- Glue the scrapbook paper onto the back of the shadow box if it comes off (if it doesn’t come off wait until after you spray paint the frame)
- Stain or paint the wooden heart. I used an Espresso colored stain.
- Paint the shadowbox/frame – I used white spray paint. Because my frame had a glossy pink paint on it, I used a fine grained sand paper to scuff it up so the spray paint would stick better.
- After the paint dries, put the back of the shadow box back on and glue the heart into the shadow box.
- Choose a word to put on the heart. I chose “XOXO” but you could do “LOVE’ or “Be Mine” or anything you like. I cut the letters out of white vinyl with my Silhouette machine but you can paint it on with acrylic paint as well.
And that’s it ! Easy Peasy 🙂
